There will be a series of public hearings on the Conditional Use Application for the creation of the Spa/Golf Course/Hotel Resort proposed by developer Albert Greenfield III. The first hearing will take place on Tuesday Sept. 23, 2008 at 7:30pm, Wallace Township Building, 1250 Creek Rd., Glenmoore 19343.

Who would have thought that there is a National Herb Day on October 11, 2008. Well it seems like the editors of Body and Soul Magazine knew about it and wrote up a little article.

HerbDay was conceived of by five nonprofit organizations with interests in herbs and herbalism (the HerbDay Coalition), to raise public awareness about the significance of herbs in our lives and the many ways herbs can be used safely and creatively for health, beauty care, and culinary enjoyment. Greater familiarity with herbs will increase informed use of herbal products and build public support for maintaining personal choice in the use of botanicals.

I did a little more research about Herb Day and found out it started back in 2006. This is the 3rd year people have gathered in different cities to support herbs and herbal treatments.

The entire herbal community is invited to participate actively in HerbDay 2008, either by hosting an event or providing sponsorship in the form of financial support.

Come Play Down On The Farm

Here is a listing of what activities and events will be at the farm: a reptile show, sunflower mime, puppet shows, pony rides, face painting, caricatures, games, crafts and moon bounces! That is just the start, there will also be wagon rides, tractors, and all of the farm animals! Also pack some old clothes to stuff a scarecrow. That makes great fun for the children!

We would like to share with you some information about PA CleanWays and ask that if any of you want to join us and help keep PA Beautiful to contact us via this blog. Or check out this PACleanWays Kids site for your children!

PA CleanWays is proud to partner with the Ocean Conservancy for the 23rd annual International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), the largest volunteer effort to clean our marine environment. The ICC will be held on the focus date of September 20, 2008, however the cleanup event can be held from the end of August to the middle of October if need be.

PA CleanWays will be coordinating cleanups for the southeast region of Pennsylvania and is looking for groups to conduct litter cleanups. The cleanup can include any heavily littered area that needs attention. ICC will provide trash bags and gloves as well as data cards to record specific types of litter removed. ICC will also refer volunteers to the cleanup coordinators from volunteers who register with the state wide coordinator or through PA CleanWays. PA CleanWays will also provide technical assistance to the cleanup coordinators as well as working with local media to promote the event in the southeast region.

The ICC not only removes pollution from our oceans and waterways but also focuses on education and empowering people to become part of the solution. Volunteers record specific types of debris being found, which enables the Ocean Conservancy to compile, analyze and track year-by-year data. The information is then used to educate the public, business, industry and government about the problem and to foster long-lasting solutions.

My wife and I have used Freecycle for over a year and have already cycled in a spare refrigerator and a few toys and book for our young kids. Things that we’ve given away to others have included an electric treadmill, an older (still in good condition) refrigerator, weed whackers, lawn spreader, and other various items.

WALLACE — Township supervisors decided two weeks ago to have a public hearing regarding a police force ordinance.

Since then, an advertisement for a police chief posted on the township’s Web site has raised questions related to the state’s Sunshine Law.

The hearing scheduled for Thursday (July 31st) night is for residents and supervisors to address the possibility of creating an independent police force. The township currently receives services from the Brandywine Regional Police.

Melissa Melewsky, media law counsel with the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, said the police chief advertisement is contrary to the intent of the Sunshine Law. She said it’s premature to have an advertisement because no official action has been taken on the police department.

“It seems that they (elected officials) don’t care what voters have to say,” Melewsky said. “All residents and taxpayers have the right to make their voices heard before the decision is made.”

In March, Wallace officials notified neighboring East Brandywine of their intent to withdraw from the regional police agreement.

East Brandywine officials have accepted Wallace’s decision to withdraw. And East Brandywine Supervisor Jay Fischer said his township will create its own police force.

Township supervisors decided there will be a public hearing next month to consider a planned country club communities zoning ordinance.

About a year ago, township supervisors tasked the planning commission, an advisory board, to write a zoning amendment to specifically define a development that includes a golf course with residential and commercial activity.

Supervisors said the public hearing to consider the adoption of the ordinance will be Aug. 21
