Looking for College Scholarships?

Are you sending your child off to college soon and wondering how you are going to be able to pay for this large expense? I found this website called FastWeb which boasts that it has the largest listing of scholarships available. All you have to do is register on their website (you can even say No to being contacted by colleges with email) and then search away. Your child must be at least 14 years old in order to begin searching for scholarships opportunities. It looks like they also provide a search of Internship and Job opportunities. New scholarships are added every day.

File Your Local Township Taxes Online This Year with Berkheimer

For those of you waiting until the last minute to file your taxes, whether it’s Federal, State or Local you can take care of all of those tax filings online for free. I typically use Turbo Tax to file, and did so again this year, but I know that the IRS (www.irs.gov) offers an E-filing method as does Pennsylvania.

But how many Glenmoore Residents know that Berkheimer has improved it’s online presence and now allows free electronic tax filing. It’s quick and simple, you can even pay via ACH (from your bank) or by credit card (but they tack on 3% of the total payment as a fee).

Anyway, thought I’d just reminder folks about Berkheimer’s services this year.

April is Autism Awareness Month!

Did you know that every 20 minutes another child is diagnosed with autism? Autism is the second most common developmental disorder in the United States affecting one in every 150 children born today. Despite some promising discoveries, the cause of autism is unknown and a cure does not exist. Research is crucial. Not only must we find ways to improve the quality of life for children and adults with autism, but we also must find a cure, and soon. You may likely have a relative with autism, if not you likely know someone who does. You may not realize that we have a few local families who are touched by this disorder.

Trade your Stuff with Zunafish

On those occasional nights when both kids go to bed nicely and it’s before 9 pm, I get to relax and take a bath. One of the many free magazines we receive is Oprah. Well, Oprah has some good stuff in her magazines from time to time. She once promoted this website where you can trade your stuff and ask for stuff which you need. You simply list the stuff you want to get rid of and search for things you would like. Not sure if it needs to be an equal trade with the same person or what. The site is called Zunafish (www.zunafish.com).

I myself haven’t checked it out but the front page says just a buck a trade. Not bad. Jeff will have to check this site out and get back with some more details.

New Stop Signs Posted at LCR and Marshall Road

You are probably already aware of the new stop signs that were installed Thursday morning at the intersection of Little Conestoga and Marshall Roads. We knew this was going to be coming and it finally has. Just wanted to bring this to the attention for those that might stumble onto this post and might not be aware of the change (yet).

I would advise to still use caution when pulling off of LCR and Chalfont Roads onto Marshall/LCR. Some motorists that drive LCR on occasion may not notice the new stop signs right away.

It’s always better to be safe and make sure the traffic is stopped before pulling out!

Adopt a Highway Program Update

Thanks to all those families that have volunteered to join my husband and I in our effort to keep Little Conestoga Road clean. Over 20 people have agreed to help us keep our local road clean. We have submitted the application for the section from Adams Road through Fairview Road. If we get enough interest and participation, we might even extend through Marsh Creek bridge. Marsh Creek Signs has the section of LCR from Marsh Creek bridge through Route 100.

As soon as we know our first cleaning date, we will email those who have signed up. If you are interested and you have not signed up, please contact us using the link at the top. Remember, kids must be over 8 and accompanied by an adult.

Who’s A Photographer?

Third post of the evening and it’s getting late. I’ll be off to bed after this one but wanted to get a lot done this evening and start off strong!

I’ve been taking some great nature shots in Chester County the past few months. I’m looking for other area photographers that would like to share some of their shots with others in a community photo blog!

Please send your photos, name and where you took the pictures to admin@westglenmoore.org.

Once we have enough, we’ll be adding the photo blog to the site! I think there is some great potential in sharing the beauty of our community!
