Community Volunteers to Clean Up Little Conestoga Road

Adopt a Highway Volunteers of Glenmoore

Jeff and I wanted to thank everyone who volunteered on Saturday, April 26th to help do their part to Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful! We began this program as a result of our daily commute on Little Conestoga Road and having to look at all of the trash each morning and night. We’ve also been trying to become more “green” this year and conscious about recycling, conserving and spreading information about green topics through this blog. Hope you are finding them useful!

Volunteers picking up trash along Little Conestoga Road in Glenmoore, PAWe chose this early spring cleanup date as part of The Great PA Cleanup program sponsored by PENNDOT, which runs from March 1 through May 31.

We successfully cleaned our adopted two-mile stretch  of Little Conestoga Road (in Glenmoore, PA) from Adams Road to Fairview Road (well, almost all the way to Fairview…). Volunteer turnout for our first cleanup was terrific! We had a total of 20 people, including one child,  and collected over 40 bags of trash, most of which were bottles, plastic and other recyclables which we separated as “to be recycled”.  We also found 4 tires, 6 paint cans and various car parts buried in thick thorn bushes.

PENNDOT has been contacted and will clean up the bags of trash. Thanks to Cathy Poole for allowing us to deposit some of the recyclables at the end of her driveway. To anyone that might have kept their gloves and/or vests, please hold on to them for next clean-up! If your vest was one of the several ripped by branches, thorns, etc. we have several more available.

We anticipate our next clean-up to be sometime mid June or July and will send out emails to everyone as it gets closer.

Thanks again to everyone and hope you all enjoyed it!
